I have 2 girls, 9 and 12 yrs. My 9 yr old loves to wrestle and is quite good at it. We live in a very small mountain community and there are 60 students in our K-8 school! We are like a big family. My husband & I (married 16 yrs) struggled when 2 years ago she really wanted to wrestle as an after school sport. Other girls of various ages also wrestled.
I have an older Philippina friend who told me she wrestled for sport in the Philippines when she was young and she loved it! This was a shock but reassuring. This friend is a very strong disciple and servant for Christ. She stated that wrestling was an outlet for her, and encouraged girls to be involved if they were interested. My 12 year old also wrestled when she was 8-9, but then became disinterested.
Just a little insight from a thankful, faithful, long-time listener!
